Norwescon Schedule

So, my Norwescon schedule is a little odd this year. I have two readings and two critiques but no panels. It should be a great convention as Norwescon is suffering from an embarrassment of riches where authors are concerned. This means the parties and BarCon should be packed with some of the most delightful people in the business.

Also, the head of programming, Rob Stewart, has some ideas about guerilla programming throughout the convention. So, unexpected author may be unexpected. Keep your eyes open for this coolness to come. Otherwise, I may haunt the author readings because I've not heard a lot of my friends read before.

Finally, Apex Publications will be in the Dealers Room. Thus, three of us (me, Maggie and Deb) who read for Apex will be there to chat and sell you books. This includes the brand new CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE URBAN KIND which features a bevy of local authors.

So, to find me, come to a reading or see me at the Apex Publications dealer's table.

I really hope you come back to be on the Girls in Games panel! I am glad I got to meet you on that panel last year!

Saturday, 2:00 p.m., Cascade 8
Women in Gaming
Our all-female panel of gaming professionals discusses the growing presence
/ awareness of women in playing and designing games, not to mention busting
those "girl gamer" myths. Our panelists will discuss gaming from card/board
games to video games, how they got started in the industry, and how you can,
too!

It appears my schedule is open. I will be there. :)

And I really hope it is ok to drag other pro gamer girls onto the panel... I know there are more who will be at Norwescon!

Yep. I'm sure it will be fine. It just depends on how packed the room will be. It was pretty full last year.

PS: I had really hoped to be on the panel again. I'm sad I'm not but I'm glad you let me know when it is.

Yeah, all the gaming panels have less people on the panels overall... I know last year we had like 6 people on the panel!

I will never forget R.A. Salvatore coming in and telling the room he wants to hire women. That was awesome.

That was pretty awesome. Do you know whatever happened with that?

I don't know, I can't move to the East Coast but the company he works for has some cool initiatives.

I was told that Norwescon is a good place for aspiring writers to go to attend some good panels, would you say that this is true?

[identity profile] jennifer-brozek.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I would. It is a great place to learn and to network.

Well, barring any babies that might sprout between then and now I'll have to put it on my calendar. Is it always typically about this time of year?

Also, if you don't mind further questions about it, how does it compare to BayCon? I'm assuming the general response would be "It's better." but I'm looking for a little more detail. 8)

It is always over Easter weekend.

I like Norwescon's writing track better and it does also have the Fairwood Writers Workshop group. Plus, I think more writers, editors and publishers go to Norwescon--though I have no hard facts to back that one up.

Awesome! I understand that you would be busy with panels most likely but if I did make a trip northwards might you introduce me to some people?

Awesome. Thank you!
