All About the Cards
Aug. 21st, 2008 12:36 pm20 business cards collected at Gen Con.
11 cards from other authors
3 author cards collected to email about TEoP
4 author cards collected to email them about various things
4 author cards collected just because
7 cards from potential publishers
4 cards from RPG publishers I really want to work for
1 card from a RPG publisher handed to me in a panel
2 cards from a publisher who was extremely condescending to me until he discovered that I was a "real" writer and worth his time
2 cards from artists because I liked their work.
Looking at this pile of cards, I have a lot of writing and then emailing to do. This doesn't include the non-card schmoozing done. On my schedule, I have pitches to give for Victoriana, White Wolf, Wildfire and Rogue Games. Plus, I have two novel manuscripts to massage into proper format for submission and review.
Still, I do enjoy my pile of business cards. They represent industry contacts and potential work.

Date: 2008-08-21 09:51 pm (UTC)I spent an hour or two after coming home, sending out "nice to meet you at the con" notes to the folks whose cards I'd picked up. At least one may turn into some new work, although I wasn't really pressing the flesh at the con. (I'd love to branch out, but WW will keep me busy at my current pay rate, so I can't afford to really turn down WW work for significantly less-well-compensated work...)
