Discovery of a new terror
Nov. 15th, 2008 02:20 pmI've been pondering this newest terror for a while. All of the conventions that I will be a pro at have surveys to fill out about what you want to talk about. They all usually have a question on whether or not you want to do a reading of your work. I've discovered myself answering "No" to this last question as my mind is filled with doubts "Why would anyone want to hear me read? What would I read anyway? Freaky Friday Fiction? Fiction from my RPG projects? A story from Grants Pass? I have no idea. I'm not well enough know for anyone to want to listen to me read. Better that I just don't."
Logically, I know some of these fears are dumb but some of them are true. A way to get my voice out there and my name known is to do these readings. Even if only a couple people show up. I don't know why I can't just put my big girl pants on and just get over it. I may have to for BayCon. They have more expectations of the Toastmistress.
I suppose I could follow Jay Lake's advice, "Just have fun with it. As long as you're having fun, everyone else will too."
It's just something for me to think about.
